Computer Technology

Network support specialists and help desk technicians are in high demand as the need for skilled information technology professionals continues to grow. Enterprise State Community College’s computer systems technology program provides students with the foundational skills they need to succeed in these and related roles.

The computer systems technology program at Enterprise State Community College offers a short-term certificate and two associate’s degree options for students. The program teaches students analytical, organizational, and prioritization skills relevant to networking and troubleshooting computer problems. Students gain technical expertise in working with MS Windows, UNIX, and Linux operating systems, including use of Powershell and Linux commands. The short-term certificate can be obtained in just two semesters, and associate’s degrees typically take two years to complete.

Once they’ve completed coursework, students are ready to take CompTia A+, Network+ and Fundamental certifications. These industry-relevant certifications provide prospective employers with proof that students have the skills necessary to begin work in their field. As a CompTia Academy Parnter, ESCC can provide discounts on exam prices.

According to the Bureau Of Labor Statistics, computer support technicians can earn a good living. BLS statistics show that the median pay for computer support specialists was $24.75 per hour in 2015. Jobs in the field are expected to grow by 12 percent in the coming decade.

For students with a knack for computers who want to further develop skills that can help them find work in a variety of IT-related positions, ESCC’s computer systems technology program offers an excellent springboard to success.
