SPECIAL OLYMPICS TO BE HELD AT ESCC
ENTERPRISE, AL – The Special Olympics will be held for Coffee, Dale, and Geneva Counties at Enterprise State Community College Track on Friday, April 20 at 9am. This annual event provides the opportunity to allow special needs persons to have fun, engage in physical activities and meet a very import social aspect.
“The Special Olympics is dear to my heart,” said Warren Bowron, area chairman for the Special Olympics. “Anytime you meet a special person, they make you forget about all of your worldly problems. They don’t meet strangers. There’s a smile on every face.”
Bowron says this track and field event will have numerous running events, softball, long jump and all of your basic track and field competitive events.
“This is an annual event each April and we have been very fortunate that the college (ESCC) lets us hold our games on campus,” continued Bowron. “We’re happy to come back now that the campus is available again.”
Seven institutions will be represented: Hillcrest Elementary , Dauphin Junior High, Enterprise High School, Merle Wallace Purvis Center (Geneva), Vivian B. Adams (Ozark), Coffee County Training Center (Enterprise), and Coffee County Schools. Approximately 200 athletes participate and over 100 volunteers donate their time. The age of participants ranges from 10 years to roughly 60 years of age.
