ESCC INSTRUCTOR PRESENTS AT
NATIONAL TECHNOLOGY CONFERENCE
March 20, 2013, Enterprise, AL:Enterprise State Community College Office Administration instructor and distance learning specialist, Amy Wise, presented at the Cengage Course Technology Conference on Wednesday, March 13, 2013, in San Diego, California.
Wise presented “Meeting Your Students on Cloud 9” to an audience of community college and university instructors about cloud computing and new technologies teachers can use in the college classroom. Programs examined included Jing, Screencast-o-matic, Remind 101, Prezi and Dropbox. All are free programs that save information into an online database commonly known as the cloud.
“I'm really excited about what cloud computing can mean for the future of education,” Wise said. “With its low costs and collaborative elements, the cloud offers so many positives for educators.”
Wise defined cloud computing as an approach to increase collaboration and productivity in an instant without investing in new infrastructure, training new personnel or licensing new software. Everything from document creation to social networking resides in the cloud. The term “in the cloud” means they are online and part of the Internet.
“Online learning and technology is the future of education,” said Dr. Matthew Hughes, ESCC Dean of Instruction. “We try to offer our students the latest cutting edge technology to ensure they are prepared for the workforce or competitive with other students transferring to 4-year institutions. Ms. Wise is an expert in this area, and we are proud that she was able to represent the college in such a prestigious setting.”
