ESCC ANNOUNCES NEW HEAD BASKETBALL COACH
Enterprise, AL May 3, 2012– Enterprise State Community College is proud to announce the new head coach for Men and Women’s basketball, Charles Medley.
Coach Medley has served as part-time coach for the ESCC Weevils alongside current head Coach, Charles Cole, for the past five years. Medley will step up to the full-time position with Coach Cole serving as coach emeritus. Coach Jermaine Williams will stay on as Men’s Assistant Basketball Coach.
“We are humbled and honored to have Coach Medley become our head basketball coach,” said Dr. Nancy W. Chandler, ESCC President.
Medley has always loved the game and was talented in the sport. After being offered several scholarships in his young college career, Medley suffered a series of injuries and was never able to play one game.
“I’m still doing what I love, being involved with basketball,” said Medley. “This position will combine both passions in my life; basketball and helping kids grow into better people.”
Medley is assuming the position unpaid. A disabled veteran, minister, and experienced youth counselor, his main focus is to graduate students.
“I am straight forward with the athletes when I meet with them,” said Medley of recruiting efforts. “Our main focus at ESCC is academics and progressing to the next step successfully in life. Basketball is just an opportunity to draw them in and help guide them to make wise choices.”
Medley has an active prison and church ministry that he will continue. He received a Bachelor of Arts in Religion from Bethany Divinity School in Dothan, Alabama. Medley will assume his new position in August 2012.
“I am thrilled to have all three coaches on board,” said Dr. Jeffrey H. Coats, ESCC Dean of Students. “Having the expertise of all three will create an outstanding leadership team for our student athletes.”
Each team (Men and Women’s) offers twelve full tuition scholarships that include the cost of books. Athletes must be full-time students and keep a 2.5 grade point average. Up to six walk-ons on each team may be accepted on a case-by-case basis.
