ESCC Alumni Establishes Scholarship for Students
ESCC ALUMNI ESTABLISHES EXCLUSIVE ENGINEERING SCHOLARSHIP FOR ESCC/AUBURN STUDENTS
April 4, 2013 Enterprise, AL– A new scholarship, The Pete L. Anderson Scholarship, is available for Enterprise State Community College (ESCC) students planning to transfer to Auburn University and pursue a career in Civil Engineering.
“We’re thrilled to have our students eligible for this tremendous opportunity at Auburn to help further their Engineering careers,” said Dr. Chip Quisenberry, ESCC Director of Student Financial Aid. “We’re especially appreciative of Mr. Anderson who has decided to give back to his alma mater. We’re very thankful for his generosity of making these funds available to our students.”
The Pete L. Anderson Scholarship is for one year and in the amount of $1,000.00. Interested students must have completed the equivalence of at least three semesters of college coursework (36 semester credit hours) at ESCC before enrolling at Auburn University. In addition, they must have a minimum GPA of 2.75 on all coursework, to include all courses at Auburn and at ESCC.
“I got a really good education at ESJC (Enterprise State Junior College, aka ESCC),” began Pete Anderson. “I never intended on going to college but realized that I could further my career at the Department of Transportation (DOT) if I had a degree.”
Anderson attended ESJC in the early 1970s. During his second year, he played baseball in order to receive a tuition-paid scholarship and graduated with an Associate of Science.
Anderson attributes a lot of his success in his life to getting a good start at ESJC from excellent faculty that helped him excel in his studies and pursue higher education. He graduated from Auburn University in 1975 with a Bachelor of Civil Engineering and returned to work for the DOT.
“You know, I wouldn’t have made quite as much money if I wouldn’t have gotten my degree,” said Anderson. “And you know that’s what we work for…you make a living by what you get; you make a life by what you give. And now it’s my chance to give back.”
Anderson is retired and resides in the Montgomery, Alabama, area.
Students interested in applying for the scholarship may contact Michael Stallings, Head of Civil Engineering at Auburn University at (334) 844-6276.
