Geneva, AL May 3, 2012 – The Alabama Aviation Center, a unit of Enterprise State Community College, announces an open house for Geneva and Geneva County high school students interested in the AAC dual enrollment program. The event will be held at the Geneva Municipal Airport on Saturday, May 19, 2012, 8:45 a.m. – 1 p.m.

“The success of this dual enrollment program in Geneva is outstanding,” said Ann Spence, ESCC dual enrollment contact. “We have never had a program in its first year completely fill all available spaces. It’s thanks to hard work and dedication from community members that make programs like this a true success.”

The AAC dual enrollment program began in the fall of 2011 in the Geneva area; enrollment has reached the maximum class size of 25 students for fall and spring. Spence attributes the huge success on the commitment to program from Geneva County and City schools, the students and parents, and the support of the Geneva Municipal Airport.

The dual enrollment program offers high school students a chance to begin a career in aviation maintenance technology completely free of charge. Classes are offered on-site at the Geneva Municipal Airport.

The open house will partner with the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) Chapter 351 as they host a Young Eagles flight rally where young people ages 8 – 17 are invited to take an airplane ride to create interest in aviation.

“Free airplane rides are just a part of the Flight Rally,” said Veronica Crock, spokesman for the event. “We hope to build a one-on-one relationship with young people, giving a new generation a chance to learn more about the possibilities that exist in the world of aviation.”

Following the flight, each young person will receive a certificate making them an official Young Eagle. Their name will then be entered into the “World’s Largest Logbook,” which is on permanent display at the EAA Air Adventure Museum in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. The Logbook is also accessible at youngeagles.org.
