POSITION:

Facilities Technician – Part-Time

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent.
  2. Ability to read and write.
  3. Ability to understand verbal and written directions.
  4. Have basic or the ability to the ability to learn maintenance, grounds and custodial skills.
  5. Ability to operate College vehicles; use cleaning equipment; work with motorized equipment and manual tools, using visual and auditory inspections, climb ladders, and lift and carry up to 40 pounds in the performance of duties.

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Facilities Technician performs general custodial, maintenance and/or grounds duties campus wide as needed.

L $9 – $18/hr depending on assigned duties and experience

Job Summary:

The Facilities Technician performs general custodial, maintenance and/or grounds duties campus wide as needed.

Essential Job Functions:

Custodian Responsibilities

  1. Empties waste receptacles in offices and classrooms.
  2. Dusts furniture, shelves, and other flat surfaces.
  3. Cleans campus bathrooms.
  4. Maintains tile floors, including, sweeping, mopping, stripping, and waxing.
  5. Cleans office and classroom windows.
  6. Polices campus lawns. Rakes leaves.
  7. Maintains carpeted floors including vacuuming and shampooing.
  8. Responsible for event set-up and break downs.

Grounds  Responsibilities

  1. Operate light and/or heavy type tractor attachments such as flail mower, bush hog, scraper, rotary cultivator and curb.
  2. Connect and adjust attachments and perform operator maintenance in accordance with manufacturer’s recommendation procedures.
  3. Perform duties in the care and grooming of the college grounds.
  4. Mow, edge, water, trim, fertilize, mulch and plant.
  5. Prune, water, spray and fertilize trees and shrubs.
  6. Rakes leaves.
  7. Perform litter control for grounds.
  8. Perform operation of hydraulic equipment, such as front-end loader and lift truck used to transport equipment on campus and to trim trees.
  9. Assist in building maintenance as needed.
  10. Repair grounds equipment as needed.
  11. Physical ability to perform strenuous manual labor.
  12. Possess general knowledge of horticulture.
  13. Considerable knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of grounds maintenance.
  14. Perform exterior pest control operations.

Maintenance Responsibilities:

  1. Building maintenance as needed.
  2. Maintain sewage and water distribution systems; repair leaks broken mains and pipes, valves, pumps, motors, filtering equipment,
    and related mechanical, electrical and plumbing equipment parts of the systems.
  3. Maintain heating and air conditioning equipment: change filters, oils and replaces bearings, checks and replaces worn belts, checks chemical flow systems in boilers; replaces condensers; installs new or replacement air conditioning units.
  4. Install and maintain water and gas lines, replaces commodes, lavatories, sinks, urinals, showers, dishwashers and drinking fountains; maintain swimming pools.
  5. Install electrical wiring for plugs, switches, lighting fixtures and appliances.
  6. Perform preventative and emergency repairs on a wide range of Facilities Operations equipment.
  7. Monitor operations of equipment for efficiency and safety.
  8. Install floor tile and suspended ceilings; repairs broken window glass; paint interior and exterior of buildings, repair or replace locks, repair roofing; erect and repair chain link fences.
  9. Erect stands, platforms and stages for events.
  10. Start and operate the more complex compressor units.
  11. Check generators, overhaul motors, clean and adjust voltage regulators and temperature recorders, calibrate pressure gauges, meters and similar devices; check all indicating instruments periodically to know the functioning of every unit.
  12. Perform weekly fire pump testing.

Required License/Certification:

  • Possess valid drivers’ license and insurable.
  • Willingness to obtain Proper Refrigerant Usage Certification if required within six months of employment.

Other Specific Qualifications/Requirements of the Job:

  • Knowledge of proper use of cleaning chemicals and equipment.
  • Ability to work non-standard hours when necessary.
