POSITION:

Adult Education Instructor (English-as-a-Second Language, Adult Basic Education, OR Adult Secondary Education) – Part-Time

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Required: Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution.
  2. Excellent oral, auditory, and written communication skills.
  3. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, other employees and the public.
  4. Ability to maintain confidentiality of student information.
  5. Demonstrated proficiency in the use of multi-media, instructional technology.
  6. Preferred: Two (2) years teaching experience.

POSITION SUMMARY:

Maintains a high level of competence and expertise in the area of Adult Education. Provides classroom instruction in accordance with approved local program and state requirements. Incorporates current teaching techniques, subject area developments, and current technology into the Adult Education program design. Provides a variety of classroom experiences including small group instruction, teacher-directed instruction, self-paced instruction, and computer-assisted instruction to meet the needs of the learner.

SALARY:

Commensurate with Alabama State Board of Education D-3 Salary Schedule 12-month position  Range: ($24,000-$48,000) HOURLY RATE

Applicants must travel at their own expense.  Candidates selected for an interview must demonstrate proficiency in written English and skills assessment may be included as part of the interview process. All applications become the property of ESCC. An offer of employment is contingent upon a satisfactory criminal background investigation. In the event a conviction for a felony or any crime involving moral turpitude is found, the procedures set out in the guidelines for State Board Policy 623.01 will be followed. The candidate hired will be responsible for the nonrefundable minimum cost of $15.00 for the criminal background investigation.  Additional charges may apply. ESCC participates in E-Verify.

Essential Job Functions:

  1. Maintains a high level of competence and expertise in the area of Adult Education.
  2. Participates in professional development activities including the annual summer conference.
  3. Provides classroom instruction in accordance with approved local program and state requirements.
  4. Incorporates current teaching techniques, subject area developments, and current technology into the Adult Education program design.
  5. Provides a variety of classroom experiences including small group instruction, teacher-directed instruction, self-paced instruction, and computer-assisted instruction to meet the needs of the learner.
  6. Informs students concerning course requirements, evaluation procedures, attendance requirements, and academic progress.
  7. Provides for effective evaluation of the learning experience of each student.
  8. Submits timely and accurate Adult Education National Reporting System (NRS) records.
  9. Maintains necessary attendance, scholastic, and enrollment records and submits them according to announced deadlines.
  10. Participates in the planning of effective long-range goals for the Adult Education program.
  11. Demonstrates effective people skills, communication skills, and work ethic (i.e., prepared, well-groomed, punctual).
  12. Assists students with educational and career decisions.
  13. Participates in the recruitment of new students.
  14. Coordinates with AE and other College personnel on the College’s Adult Education graduation ceremony.
  15. Performs duties at alternate sites within the College’s Adult Education Service area when needed.
  16. Performs duties related to program orientation sessions including assessment and class assignments.
  17. Maintains classroom supplies, materials, and furniture and equipment inventory.
  18. Assumes other work related responsibilities as assigned by the Adult Education Director and/or the President.
