Welcome to the Division of English, Foreign Languages, and Communication! The mission statement of our division reads: “To enhance the fluency of students in written and spoken English and foreign languages, to broaden their understanding of their literacy heritage, and to provide opportunities for personal growth and for occupational preparation and advancement.” I believe that the quotes above reflect this mission as well as our instructors’ attitudes and hopes regarding the subjects we teach in this division.

We hope that when students complete a course in English, a foreign language, or communications they will be better writers than when they first started, that they will be more comfortable speaking in front of a group than they were on the first day of class, and that they will have broadened their understading of ideas common to all humans choice. We also certainly desire our students to find personal fulfillment and enjoyment in their courses as well.

We hope students enrolled in our courses apply themselves, choose to be challenged, choose to open thier minds to new ideas and concepts, and choose to be active par yourself in the learning process. No matter what your background is or your abilities are, it is the choices you make that determine your success. We welcome you to our classes, to our division, and hope that you will discover for yourself the power of language, the answers to some of your questions, and that reading and writing are essential for survival in the modern world!
