Admission of High School Students

Dual Enrollment/Dual Credit
Enterprise State Community College has been authorized by the State Board of Education to offer Dual Enrollment/Dual Credit classes for high school students cooperatively with local boards of education in the College’s service area.  These classes may be offered on the high school campus, or the student may travel to classes at any ESCC location.

The following are the requirements for enrolling in Dual Enrollment/Dual Credit Classes:

  • The student must complete an ESCC Admissions Application.
  • The student must have a “B” average in completed high courses.
  • The student must have written approval of the high school principal and superintendent of education.
  • The student must be in grade 10, 11, or 12, or have an exception granted in accordance with Alabama Administrative Code 290-8-9-17 regarding gifted and talented students.
  • Students may enroll in occupational/technical courses/programs in accordance with guidelines of the Department of Postsecondary Education.
  • Students enrolled in courses offered during the normal high school day on or off the high school campus shall have prior permission of the students’ principal, superintendent, and the participating postsecondary institution president.
  • Parental permission and travel for courses offered off the high school campus during the normal school day will be administered under the auspices of local boards of education.
  • HOME SCHOOL:  Students enrolled at ESCC who are CURRENTLY home schooled will be limited to six hours per semester.

Accelerated High School Students
Enterprise State Community College grants early admission to high school students who wish to begin their college coursework prior to the completion of their high school diploma.

The following are admission requirements for Accelerated High School students:

  • The student has successfully completed the tenth grade.
  • The student provides certification from the local principal or his/her designee certifying that the student has a minimum cumulative “B” average and recommends the student be admitted under this policy.
  • The student may enroll only in postsecondary courses for which high school prerequisites have been completed (for example:  a student may not take English Composition until all required high school English courses have been completed).  Acceptable courses will be determined for each individual student in consultation with the College’s counseling staff.
  • Exceptions may be granted by the Chancellor of the Alabama Department of Postsecondary Education for a student documented as gifted or talented.
  • HOME SCHOOL:  Students who are CURRENTLY home schooled will be limited to six semester hours per semester.
  • Students desiring to use college credit to fulfill high school graduation requirements should make prior arrangements with their local high school system.
  • Students must comply with the College placement policy.
Other Important Information:
  • Students must pay tuition and fees and purchase necessary textbooks.
  • No Federal Financial Aid or scholarships are available.
  • Students may only enroll in college level classes.
  • High School credit may be awarded by the local board of education.  In that case, 6 semester hours are the equivalent of 1 Carnegie Unit.
  • The Admissions Application and other required documentation should be sent to the Admissions Office at the location where the student intends to enroll or it may be mailed to:
